For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11
After graduating high school in 2010, I was excited to finally start my life at 18 years old. But my plans quickly changed when Youth With A Mission’s Discipleship Training School began to call my name with God’s voice to my soul. I felt as though God was calling me to a place where He could get me alone, venerable and completely out of my comfort zone; so far beside myself that I might let Him in enough to rock my world. DTS is a time of stripping away, rebuilding, learning, equipping, and going. The first three months in Maui are focused on the personal relationship with God while the second three months are spent sharing the truth and love of Jesus Christ with others. My mission is to humble myself so that I may finally see the world through God’s eyes. YWAM’s mission is Mark 16:15 …“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” And so my journey begins…
Sometimes it takes bad news to understand how good we truly have it. This week was a reality check for all of us as Tom Osterhus, our base director and bible extraordinaire, expanded on the basics’ of Christianity; good and bad news. Tom bluntly stated that we can’t adjust the problem unless we know what the problem is; in the same way a person can’t be saved unless they understand what they are being saved from...
This week began the official count down for outreach with only two and a half weeks left on island! However, God still has some work He wants to do in my heart in preparation for the ministry we will be doing in Asia. This week Janet, a local friend of YWAM Maui, came to speak on the restoration of our hearts. Throughout the week Janet walked us through some steps allowing God to reveal any “bitter roots” we had towards any one person or situation throughout our lives (Hebrews 12:15). This week, for many of us, was like opening up a can of worms we had stashed away and let rot...
Week 7 and time is flying by! This week we had the opportunity to meet the fall DTS teams as they returned from outreach. Having the opportunity to hear their testimonies of how God was at work in the different locations was really inspiring. It made me so excited to get there and even more excited to come back after outreach and be in their place; happy to be home but longing to go back...
Ahhh Valentines Day, what a great way to start off relationships week! Faith Dutton spoke about relationships by God standards of love for us as He is love after all (1 Corinthians 13)...
It’s amazing who you can meet and what you can hear when you take a little media out of life. Last week I had the opportunity to participate in a week long media fast which brought everyone a little bit closer. Without our Imedia, cell phones and computers we spent more time together as a base hanging out getting to know each other. There were more opportunities to take chances and step out of our comfort zones together...
Every Sunday in church God is and always will be the main focus, however when considering the Trinity it seems as though the Holy Spirit tends to be over looked most of the time. This week Maria Daughtry, a Holy Spirit enthusiast, encouraged us to take a greater look at our relationship with the Holy Spirit...
Do you ever over look the Old Testament? Unintentionally, I often find myself just flipping straight to the Good News. Reading through the Bible from beginning to end has been a never successful battle because I can’t seem to get passed Genesis 5 with all that genealogy. However, I never really took the time to understand why that kind of stuff was so pertinent. Last week our base director Tom Osterhous made the time to explain each connection the Old Testament had to the cross. There were many accounts that he spoke of from The Fall all the way to the Crucifixion; but the one that stood out to me the most was the way the genealogy in Genesis 5 pointed to the cross....
Oh how life has been so insanely busy the past few weeks! Between spending time with our new outreach groups, my weekly Journaling homework, and being spiritually rocked to the core; there hasn’t been much time for blogging therefore I finally write you now. During the second week of lectures we were blessed to have Andy Bird, a very gifted and spiritually motivated evangelist, come and speak to us about our Intimacy with the Lord. I realized that week that God’s love isn’t something to strive for, but God loves us no matter where we are at in life broken, bruised, and sinful. The only thing He calls us to do is to let Him love us...
My first week here at YWAM Maui has been an experience that I didn’t expect. I tried not to have many expectations before I came, however I did assume church on the first Sunday and lectures starting first thing on Monday because personally I feel as though I have a lot to learn in what I think is little time. However God make miracles happen every day and there are many surprises along the way...
