Thanksgiving & Christmas Food BoxesOnce again, OCEC is providing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to families in need in our City. Please bring donations of non-perishable food, both for holiday meals and basic staples, and drop them off in the barrel in the lobby. Donations are also needed to purchase turkeys for the boxes, and volunteers are needed to help deliver the Thanksgiving boxes on Nov. 20th. Accepting donations until December 4th.
This year, OCEC is providing Christmas gifts for children from families in need, but their parents are going to get to do the shopping! We are sponsoring a shopping day for the parents to pick out their child's gift and then bring it back to the church to wrap it for their child to open on Christmas. We are collecting donations to purchase gift cards for the families, as well as donations of gift wrapping supplies. We also need volunteers to host a family as they shop or help with gift wrapping at the church on December 10th. Accepting donations until December 4th. Any Questions? We have served with Wycliffe Bible Translators in South America as translators for the Chami people of Colombia for over 10 years. We are currently working in the U.S. as Recruiters and Holly as a Partnership Development Coach, helping new members get to their assignments sooner and with better preparation. We loved working in translation but know that what we are doing to recruit and help new members is a vital part of what God is doing in Bible translation around the world.
Prayer request: For the many people we are working with, that they would follow God's plan no matter what it takes.
Prayer Request: Please pray for university students and business professionals to see the relevance of the Bible in their lives and to accept Jesus as their Savior.
What we do and where we work: We live and work in Kiev, Ukraine with OMS. We are both involved in English evangelism, discipleship and church planting, but through different avenues. Kevin is working with with 3 other OMS missionaries to reach university students with the gospel. Initial contacts are made through two English Outreach camps each summer. After camp, follow-up takes place through weekly English clubs, small group Bible studies, discipleship, and special events. Multiplying small group home churches is a goal being worked towards. Debbie works with International Partnerships, a Ukrainian missions organization which targets educated professionals with the gospel. Our mission is to reach the one that reaches thousands. Debbie teaches evening Business English and English/Bible classes to professionals. These classes include an English lesson and a Bible study or Business discussion based on Biblical principles. The English lesson is taught by Debbie and the Bible study or discussion is taught by a Ukrainian Christian. Our goals for the classes include helping professionals see that the Bible is relevant to their lives, personal salvation for each one and spiritual growth.
Gordon and Niki Elliot have four children: their 14 year old son Mark (youngest), and three older children who are all in the US now. Daniel (number 2) is married to Naomi and just graduated in April from Indiana Wesleyan University. Heather (number 1) lives in Houston, Texas and attends Rice University. She has just finished her third year in her English Ph D program. Dori (number 3) has one semester left before graduating from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. Neither of the girls are married.
Prayer Request - Pray for the Elliott's and the entire Bolivian missions team as we seek how to adapt our ministry to the changing situation in Bolivia.
Gordon is field superintendent for Evangelical Church Missions and helps the Bolivian church with pastoral and leadership training. Niki is an educational therapist and volunteers her time at the Santa Cruz Christian Learning Center. The Elliott's live in the city of Santa Cruz. With a population of 1 1/2 million, it is Bolivia's largest city.
We are currently in the midst of a transition. We are waiting for WGM to make official our transfer from Bolivia to the American Indian Field (AIF). We are blessed to be able to finish out our more than forty year missionary career here with Native Americans on the reservations close to where we are living.
Prayer Request: Pray God will direct us as we get settled here in our new assignment, including finding a more permanent residence (we are house hunting), and making vital ministry contacts on the reservations in our area.
The Focus of our ministry is in two main areas. (1) We will be ministering to the Native American church leaders on the reservations to assist and encourage them. We envision leadership training, mentoring, discipleship and filling in where we can be helpful. Some churches are well established but others are struggling and understaffed. (2) There is a great need for ministering to Native American children and youths. Many are besieged with changing-times issues such as broken homes, drugs, pornography, and resulting depression. We will be participating in four summer camps involving kids from grade school through high school. It presents a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in these kids lives. Please pray for these camps to be conducted in June and July.
Words cannot adequately express the appreciation we feel for the partnership we have had with OCEC church, and the many individuals there that have supported us by prayer and generous giving through the years.
Thank you and may God richly bless you,
Joe and Ellen Kunkle
Rod and Beth Williamson (and their children Josh and Matt) serve with One Mission Society (OMS).
We live in Taichung and work in all the major cities of Taiwan. Rod serves as the Taiwan Field Director and the Associate International Regional Director for East Asia. Beth home schools Matt (Matt has Down Syndrome). Rod and Beth teach an 17-week parenting class each semester at local churches in Taiwan.
Prayer Request: Please pray that the parents taking the parenting class would learn how to apply the Biblical principles of parenting in their communities. We have found that application of the principles is the most difficult skill to learn for our parents.
