OCEC Missions

"You shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

Our Missions Team's primary responsibility is to oversee the church's commitment to and involvement in world missions.

Our church members financially and prayerfully suport many Christian missionaries around the world. Whether those missionaries are our own church members or call another church home, we understand our part in supporting them as God calls us. OCEC owns and manages two mission homes where we provide temporary housing for missionaries returning from the mission field for a short time. Throghout the year there are often short term missions trips available for those God feel is calling them to support and experience mission efforts first hand.

Honduras Update 2012 part 2

Sorry I haven't been better at sending written updates. So I'll give some thoughts as the week comes to a close.

  • We have had wonderful times of devotion and reflection in the early evening each day. Different team members have led in devotions and one of our members, Marilee Swindler, put together a song sheet that we have used each evening for worship singing.
  • Of course, the team has enjoyed playing Farkle, the game Jack Wright introduced us to on our first trip.
  • We finished the walkway across the front of the Guest's home and over to the school game court. Overall looks good but had heavy rain on the first 10 feet of it so that part doesn't look as good.
  • The Laundry building walls are complete and now doing the concrete beam across the top of the opening and brick walls.
  • We started work on the walkway from the boy's dorm to the new laundry building last night and will probably do a little on that again this morning.
  • We ate our only meal of the week with the children last night which was followed by the program. Our team was very touched once again by the drama they performed that expressed the cry of the street children for love and care.
  • Today we leave Manuelito around 1:00 for Valley of the Angels for a one our shopping experience and then into Tegucigalpa to visit the Transition House. We are all looking forward to seeing the Transition House and the boys there again.
  • We will spend the night in Teguc and fly out tomorrow for home.

Blessings,
Pastor Tom

Honduras Update 2012 part 1

The Honduras Mission Team has been hard at work from when they arrived at Proyecto Manuelito in Talanga, Honduras. There are around 34 children here and another 6 at a transition house in Tegucigalpa. This is an incredible ministry that was started by the Amor y Vida (Love and Life) Church in Tegucigalpa. We are privileged to serve the children and staff under the ministry of Hope Teams International.

We traveled here with 13 bags of school, hygiene and medical supplies to meet needs here at Proyecto Manuelito. On the first day these supplies were put into storage areas and our work on the laundry facility and some sidewalks began. On Sunday we went into church where Pastor Jorge Pinto asked Bruce Benson, Wycliffe missionary to Peru and part of our OCEC mission team, to share his testimony. Bruce was able to share his testimony in Spanish and gave a great challenge which resulted in several coming to the altar for prayer. During each service the team came to the front and we introduced ourselves.

Monday and Tuesday have been ongoing days of heavy physical work of digging, breaking up rock, mixing mortar for laying bricks, putting together rebar lattice to be placed in the walkways as the concrete is poured. This afternoon, Tuesday, we began mixing and pouring the concrete. Eventually it began raining so hard that we had to quit for today. That means that Wednesday will be a major day of concrete work!

Thank you for your ongoing prayers for us. Thank you for the financial donations that helped some of our team members make this trip. Thank you for all the supplies that were given that we transported down here for the ministry to these children.

On this election night we are watching with anticipation the outcome of the U.S. elections. It is our desire to maintain a heart of praise for our God no matter the outcome and to place our trust fully in the Living, Triumphant God and Savior we serve.

Blessings from Honduras,
Pastor Tom
